Washington Trip to visit my Sister and her family
I took a 6 night trip to the Southwest corner of our most Northwestern state
April 2018

My first full day was spent sightseeing with my Nephew. I drove East from Portland Oregon on I-84 then drove
up to the top of a long ridge to Vista House, high above the Columbia River.

Fortunately we asked at Vista House about the areas damaged in last year's fire that closed several roads and parks.
We learned of a detour we would never have found! It involved getting on I-84 at an interchange that lacks an
Eastbound on-ramp. I drove 4 miles away from our next stop to reach an interchange where we turned around.

Perhaps the best known waterfall in the area, Multnoma Falls, can be seen from I-84

We stopped for lunch on the Washington side at the picturesque Skamania Lodge.
This is the view from our window table.

Also on the Washington side, visible in the mist in the first photo from Vista Point,
you can just make out Beacon Rock. When you drive close it looms above at 848 feet.
My Sister and Nephew have climbed it by a trail on the far side.

The next five photos are from the restored Pittock Mansion, West of Portland Oregon.

Views of the interesting, "Interstate Bridge" between Portland Oregon and Vancouver Washington.
I-5 passes over this lift bridge.

On another day I noticed the vehicles on I-5 had stopped and realized I was seeing a small sailboat
bring an Intertate Highway to a halt! Note the clear sky.

On my last full day I visited the Lan Su Chinese Garden, on a block in downtown Portland.

On my last morning while eating breakfast this shop across the street caught my eye.
It is a Cat Hotel that has free roaming for its residents.
